The threat of a partial government shutdown is looming on the U.S. government. As of today, it stands just three days away. With the shutdown knocking at the door, the Democratic-controlled Senate seems to be prepping up for a very important procedural vote. This vote is set to take place on Thursday.
The said vote in question will take place about a measure regarding the bipartisan short-term spending measure. Although the measure has faced major rejection from the Republican House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, the Democrats are being hopeful.
The Republican-controlled House is in the middle of a voting procedure. They are voting for amendments to the appropriations of bills.
However, these amendments hold the potential to become the law. But even if they do, it is not sure if they will be able to stop the government shutdown.
In order to stop such an outcome, the Congress will have to pass a law that can be signed into force by the Democratic President Joe Biden. It is set to happen before the deadline of midnight on Saturday.
If the responsible parties fail to do so, it could result in thousands of federal workers coming to an immediate halt. There could be a shutdown of multiple critical services, economic data releases, etc. This shut down is the fourth one in the past decade.
