On Thursday, lawyers of the ex-POTUS, Mr. Donald Trump, requested a New York judge to take a decision relating to a civil fraud case. This case is against Mr. Trump himself. His lawyers feel that the case should go in his favor.
This request comes as a long-shot bid while his trial continues for showing a false valuation of his real estate property.
This formal request to put an end to this case came from Trump’s lawyers in a public court session. Moreover, this interesting turn of events is happening just one day after the New York attorney general’s office presented evidence relevant to the trial.
The New York Attorney General, Letitia James, finished presenting her case against Donald Trump, his two grown-up sons, and 10 of his companies.
James claims that Trump and his family businesses intentionally adjusted the values of his golf courses, hotels, and other assets by billions of dollars. The aim, she says, was to get better deals with lenders and insurers and pay less in taxes.
This marks a significant moment in the legal process. It brings a spotlight on the accusations about how Trump and his businesses handled their finances.
Trump’s legal team has requested Justice Arthur Engoron for what they are calling a “directed verdict.”
It is a decision stating that it’s unreasonable to support the other side. However, since Engoron has already concluded that Trump and 10 of his businesses were actively engaged in fraud, it’s doubtful.
Moreover, Engoron’s ruling only addressed one of the seven fraud charges against Trump. The timing of Engoron’s decision on this request remains uncertain.
