Hunter Biden, the son of President Joe Biden, is set to plead not guilty to federal gun charges, according to a statement released by his lawyer today. Additionally, the legal team has requested that the court hearing be conducted via video conference due to logistical and security concerns.
Hunter Biden, 53, is facing allegations of providing false information when purchasing a firearm in 2018. The charges have been a subject of controversy and have drawn significant attention, given his prominent family’s position in American politics.
In the statement, George R. Mesires, Hunter Biden’s attorney, stated, “Mr. Biden is innocent of these charges, and we intend to vigorously defend him in court. We believe the evidence will show that there was no ill intent or criminal behavior on his part during the firearm purchase process.”
The lawyer also cited concerns about the security and logistical challenges of an in-person court appearance, given the intense media scrutiny surrounding the case. He added, “We have requested a video court hearing to ensure a fair and impartial proceeding while minimizing disruptions and risks.”
The charges against Hunter Biden stem from a 2018 incident in which he allegedly lied on a background check form when purchasing a firearm. The gun in question was reportedly later discarded in a trash bin near a Delaware supermarket, leading to its discovery by authorities.
The case has drawn considerable attention due to Hunter Biden’s high-profile status and his father’s position as President. Critics have questioned the timing and motivations behind the charges, while supporters of the administration have emphasized the importance of upholding the law.
The court will decide whether to grant the request for a video hearing. If approved, it would allow Hunter Biden to participate remotely while the legal proceedings unfold. The case is likely to continue to be a focal point of public and political discourse in the coming months.
